One Quiet Morning
Every morning, Tom walked the same narrow street on his way to work. He had lived in the neighborhood for years, but somehow, the street never felt familiar. It was quiet, almost too quiet, especially in the early winter air.
That morning, the sky was pale gray, and the cold made his breath visible. As he walked, he noticed something different. A small café, which had always been closed, had its lights on. Warm yellow light spilled out onto the sidewalk.
Tom stopped for a moment. He had passed this place hundreds of times, but he had never seen it open. After a short hesitation, he pushed the door and stepped inside.
The café was simple. Soft music played in the background, and the smell of fresh coffee filled the air. Behind the counter stood an elderly man with a gentle smile.
“Good morning,” the man said. “You’re my first customer today.”
Tom ordered a cup of coffee and sat by the window. As he took the first sip, he felt something unexpected. The tension he carried every day slowly melted away.
They talked for a while. Not about anything important — just the weather, the street, and how fast time seemed to move. Before Tom realized it, it was time to leave.
When he stood up, the man said quietly, “Sometimes, taking a different step changes the whole day.”
Outside, the street looked the same as always. But Tom felt different. As he continued walking to work, he realized that even small choices could open new doors.
And from that day on, the street finally felt familiar.
