Today’s English Story
The Window and the Memory
Kazunao sat quietly by the hospital window. The afternoon sky was bright, and soft clouds drifted across the blue horizon. He watched the distant scenery and thought about a place that had always been special to him.
It was the old station of the Nitchū Line. Many years had passed since trains last ran there, but the memories remained vivid. He remembered the station building, the tracks, and the feeling of excitement whenever a train arrived.
As he looked outside, he imagined hearing a distant whistle. In his mind, a train slowly rolled into the station once again. Passengers stepped onto the platform, and the station came alive with warmth and laughter.
A nurse walked by and smiled. “Thinking about something nice?” she asked.
Kazunao smiled back. “Yes. I’m visiting an old memory.”
The nurse nodded. “Sometimes memories are good traveling companions.”
He looked out the window one more time. The station existed only in memory now, but that did not make it any less real to him. Some places stay in our hearts forever.
