なんだこりゃ?
The Last Train at Dusk
The platform was almost empty.
A soft orange light covered everything—the tracks, the bench, and the quiet air. Naoki stood alone, holding his phone, waiting for the last train.
He wasn’t in a hurry. He just didn’t want to go home yet.
A message was still open on his screen.
“I think we should stop seeing each other.”
He had read it more than ten times. Still, it didn’t feel real.
A train passed without stopping. The wind followed, brushing his face like a memory.
He looked down the track. For a moment, he imagined someone running toward him, waving, smiling, saying, “Wait!”
But no one came.
Only the sound of the next train approaching slowly.
Naoki took a deep breath and finally locked his phone.
“Maybe… this is okay,” he whispered.
The train arrived. Doors opened with a soft sound.
He stepped inside.
As the train began to move, he watched the platform fade away, along with the version of himself who had been waiting there.
Outside, the sky turned from orange to deep blue.
And somewhere between stations, he felt just a little lighter.
